This site was almost called Third of Five Blog, or maybe even The Mortgage Borg. The idea was to evoke something about collective knowledge and shared information. However, the concept of a spacegoing community of mortgage industry cyborgs was deemed too frightening by some (and incredibly tiresome by many), so the idea was abandoned.
Actually, despite having once posed for a poster in the style of Men In Black (which you will never, ever see here), Larry Grant is not an undercover agent working for the FSA. He does not always wear black suits, white shirts & dark sunglasses - and does not hate everyone called ‘Mr Anderson’. Actually he’s just a regular, nice guy. No, really. His C.V. contains stuff like “motivational leader” and “results-driven strategists”, but he rarely carries a framed version of this with him and hasn’t attempted to use it as a dating icebreaker for months now.
Larry grew up in South London and did not muster up the courage to move north of the river until his late thirties. The shock to his system (caused primarily by a sudden abundance of taxis) was so great that he was advised, on medical grounds, to move out of London altogether and now lives in the tranquil surroundings of rural Kent.
With over 20 years’ experience at senior levels in the Financial Services industry, his career has included insurance underwriting, insurance sales and broking, investment analysis, trading systems development, commodity and currency asset management and mortgage and finance broking. He still pines for his boyhood dream of becoming a wildlife researcher, but has few regrets, as he ended up working in the jungle anyway.
A contrarian by nature, Larry is well-known for challenging widely held opinions and asking obvious, but often difficult, questions. He believes that more people need to think and reason their way through issues and situations rather than simply following the crowd, as his many years’ experience in the City have taught him that the crowd is often wrong. (Another good reason to abandon the idea for The Mortgage Borg.)
Larry is passionate about helping others to get the most out of life and succeed in their goals, an attitude which permeates his business and personal life. As you might expect from a keen Arsenal supporter, his personal philosophy is; work hard, play beautifully and try not to keep coming second…
