Stamp duty confusion
As if buying a house and securing a mortgage was not complicated enough there are fears that government changes to Stamp Duty regulations is causing confusion across the country.
Speculation suggests that among possible measures to boost the housing market could be allowing buyers to postpone the payment of stamp duty. However, the government has denied that any proposals have been put forward at all, saying the stories are speculation.
The uncertainty is causing problems as people delay finalising deals until the situation is clarified. The regulation changes could save buyers thousands of pounds.
Anger is growing as what was supposed to be a measure that helps the housing market is in fact causing more problems. Despite calls for clarity the Treasury has stated that no decisions have been made.
